In 1916 the Old Dewey Theatre roof collapsed under pressure of snow after the last show of the night. The theatre was empty and no one was hurt.

The lot stood vacant for a decade until 1926 when this building was designed as a replica of the Warner’s Egyptian Theatre in Pasadena, California celebrating King Tut’s tomb that had recently been discovered.

The Egyptian Theatre has been providing entertainment from the days of piano accompanied silent film to the live performances and Sundance film screenings today.
